WC book, finally out

hey guys.

For the last two years, all that my dad had talked about was his book, which he was writing. It gets really irritating sometimes, only me and my family could tell. But finally, after so much hard work, and waiting, it is finally out. And now, looking the joy on his face made me realize how important it was for him. I also feel the same joy when I do programming and succeed in my work. But, this is really big. It is titled - "Wireless Communications", useful for ECE students in 3rd and 4th year. And most importantly, can you guess who is the publisher? Its 'Tata Mc-Graw Hill', one of the leading publishers internationally. Its really amazing and the feeling is truly great. I feel so proud.

As a part of web supplements provided along with the book and also for marketing purpose, I have created an interactive quiz having questions from the text of the book. It is available at following URL: www.wcquiz.blogspot.com Please visit it, and send me your views at my email address progpank@gmail.com

CAPSA Problem No. 8 - SIMULINK

PROBLEM NO. 8

Objective:
Using SIMULINK, design and simulate a two-area power system model connected by a tie line.

Problem:
A two area system connected by a tie line has the following parameters on a 1000-MVA common base

AREA 1
Speed Regulation
R1 = 0.05
Frequency-sensitive load coefficient
D1 = 0.6
Inertia Constant
H1 = 5
Base power
1000 MVA
Governor time constant
τg1 = 0.2 sec
Turbine time constant
τT1 = 0.5 sec

AREA 2
Speed Regulation
R2 = 0.0625
Frequency-sensitive load coefficient
D2 = 0.9
Inertia Constant
H2 = 4
Base power
1000 MVA
Governor time constant
τg2 = 0.3 sec
Turbine time constant
τT2 = 0.6 sec

The units are operating in parallel at the nominal frequency of 60 Hz. The synchronizing power coefficient is computed from the initial operating condition and is given to be Ps = 2.0 per unit. A load change of 187.5 MW occurs in area 1. Construct the SIMULINK block diagram and obtain the frequency deviation response.

Microcontroller 8051

For a quick revision of architecture of uC - 8051, here is a link for the presentation on

ESD - VHDL

I found some presentations/tutorials on VHDL, might be useful to you for either lab or exams but might not be as good as my notes :) . So, here are there links.

CAPSA Lab - Problem No. 3

Problem No. 3a
printout material: click here
no manual solution required

--------------------------------

Problem No. 3b
printout material: click here

Manual Solution:
Step 1: Convert all the quantities into 200 MVA base
Step 2: Draw oneline diagram
Step 3: Form YBUS (not necessary)

--------------------------------

Also, for the 7-bus system given below, convert all the quantites into values which can be feeded into the Power World Simulator directly. Do this in rough notebook.

CAPSA Lab - Problem No. 1

Print out material link is :
Problem No 1.doc

Do manual solution on the next page with pencil or pen:
MANUAL SOULTION:
Step 1: Convert all the impedances into admittances i.e. Z <--> Y
Step 2: Make circuit diagram showing all the shunt admittances along with series admittances.
Step 3: Create the YBUS matrix.

Given above is rough idea.
